POT-001 Potions Music NYC

This is the debut release on Cherries sister record label Potions Music, out of Ridgewood Queens, NYC, electronic tonic poured on vinyl and cassette, for you mind. Two fresh slices of modern funk and synth delights from two denizens of the Chicago underground scene, with some of the members of each group in common. Chandeliers' track is a zapped out slow future funk burner, with warped and wobbling synthesizers gliding through the track, tripped out vocals, and commanding hard synth leads. Songs For Gods track offers a fast paced ghetto tech drum machine and melodic synth build up, with the soft vocals of Emma Yohanan providing a smooth glide and heavenly ride through the cosmos. Expect more from both of these great groups in the future!

"Fresh takes on classic funky synth electro from Chandeliers and Songs For Gods – a pair of Chicago groups with some shared players and differing, though similarly inspired jams on this great little split single and first release on Potions! The Chandeleliers track "Cruisin'" is stellar, and a pretty unique mix of styles – starting with squelchy synth and drums lazily floating in, then holding a steady beat – then some moody astral soul vocals take it to a deeper level. "Boss" by Song For Gods is a little more grounded, with some sweet female vocals in the mix and a less spacey vibe. Nice stuff!"
